PL RATE | Carrier & State Availability: “Do You Have Carrier X?”

Overview

Carrier and state availability in Momentum PL RATE can change as new carrier integrations and states become available. Availability also depends on your agency's direct carrier appointments. Because of this, the current Momentum RATE Carrier Guide should be used when checking whether a specific carrier or state is available.

Where to Check Current Carrier Availability

When you need to determine whether a carrier is available in Momentum PL RATE, use the Momentum RATE Carrier Guide.

The Carrier Guide provides the most current availability information for Momentum RATE and should be used instead of relying on an older or saved carrier list.

Important

Carrier availability changes over time. Always check the current Carrier Guide when determining whether a particular carrier is available rather than relying on a previously saved carrier list.

Carrier Availability Can Vary by State

A carrier being available in Momentum PL RATE does not necessarily mean that the carrier is available in every state.

Availability can depend on:

  • The carrier
  • The state being quoted
  • Your agency's direct appointment with the carrier

When preparing to quote in a particular state, verify current availability before assuming that a carrier can be included.

Why Don't I See a Carrier When Quoting?

During the quoting process, PL RATE displays carriers based on your agency's configured credentials and carrier availability for the state being quoted.

If you do not see an expected carrier, check:

  • Whether the carrier is currently available in PL RATE.
  • Whether the carrier is available for the state being quoted.
  • Whether your agency has a direct appointment with the carrier.
  • Whether your carrier credentials have been configured in Carrier Settings.

If your credentials have already been configured but the carrier is not returning a quote, review your credentials before reporting the issue.

Requesting an Additional State

If a carrier is already available in PL RATE but you need that carrier activated for an additional state, a state activation request can be submitted for review.

Additional state activations are often possible, but they are not guaranteed.

Good to Know

A request for an additional state is reviewed rather than activated automatically. Do not assume the carrier is available in the requested state until the activation has been confirmed.

Requesting a Carrier That Is Not Available

If a carrier you would like to use is not currently available in Momentum RATE, you can submit a carrier request directly from RATE.

To request a carrier:

  1. Open Momentum RATE.
  2. Go to the Carriers tab.
  3. Select Missing a Carrier.
  4. Submit the carrier you would like to see added to the rater.

The Momentum RATE team reviews submitted carrier requests as carrier availability continues to expand.

Carrier Availability vs. Carrier Appetite

Carrier availability and carrier appetite are not the same thing.

Carrier availability determines whether a carrier can participate in PL RATE for the applicable state and your agency's appointment.

Carrier appetite determines whether that carrier is willing to quote the specific risk being submitted.

A carrier can therefore be available in PL RATE but still decline or not return a quote for a particular risk based on its underwriting appetite.

Best Practices

  • Use the live Carrier Guide. Check current availability rather than relying on an older carrier list.
  • Verify the state. Carrier availability can differ from one state to another.
  • Confirm your appointment. Personal Lines uses your agency's direct carrier appointments.
  • Configure your credentials. Available carriers still require the appropriate carrier credentials in PL RATE.
  • Use Missing a Carrier for requests. Submit carriers you would like to see added directly through the Carriers tab.
  • Do not assume a requested carrier or state will be added. Requests are reviewed and availability is not guaranteed.

Summary

Carrier and state availability in Momentum PL RATE can change, so the Momentum RATE Carrier Guide should be your primary resource for checking current availability.

If an existing carrier needs an additional state, a state activation request can be submitted for review. If a carrier is not currently available in RATE, use the Missing a Carrier option from the Carriers tab to submit a request.

Remember that carrier availability does not guarantee that a carrier will quote every risk. Carrier appetite and underwriting requirements still apply to each individual submission.
