Carrier credentials connect Momentum PL RATE with the personal lines carriers your agency is appointed with. Correctly configuring these credentials is an important part of the initial setup and allows PL RATE to submit quote information to your available carriers. This article explains how to add credentials and highlights several common credential requirements.
Before You Begin
Momentum PL RATE uses your agency's direct carrier appointments. Before configuring a carrier, make sure your agency has the appropriate appointment and the credentials required to access that carrier.
Most carriers require some combination of:
- Username
- Password
- Producer or agent code
Credential requirements can vary by carrier.
Adding Carrier Credentials
To configure a carrier:
- Open Momentum RATE.
- Go to Carrier Settings.
- Locate the carrier you want to configure.
- Enter the requested carrier credentials.
- Review the information for accuracy.
- Select Save.
- Confirm that the checkmark appears.
Important: Always select Save after entering a carrier's credentials. The checkmark confirms the information was saved. If the checkmark does not appear, the credentials were not successfully saved.
Producer and Agent Codes
Pay particular attention to the formatting of producer and agent codes.
When entering a producer code, remove hyphens or dashes and enter the code as one continuous string.
For example:
Enter: G12345
Do not enter: G-12345
Incorrect formatting can prevent a carrier from successfully returning quotes.
Progressive
For Progressive, use the agent code displayed after logging in to the Progressive ForAgents portal.
The agent code is displayed in the top-right of the portal.
Enter the code exactly as required in PL RATE.
GEICO
For GEICO, use your agency-specific G-code in the producer-code field.
Make sure the code corresponds with the agency appointment being configured.
Liberty Mutual and Safeco
For Liberty Mutual and Safeco, enter the applicable code without dashes.
This is a common credential-formatting issue, so verify the code before saving.
Carriers with Multiple Programs
Some carriers may have multiple programs available.
When configuring these carriers:
- Start with the programs your agency writes most frequently.
- Confirm availability for the state in which you plan to quote.
- Configure additional programs as needed.
What If a Carrier Isn't Returning Quotes?
If you have saved a carrier's credentials but the carrier is not returning quotes, start by reviewing the credential information.
Check that:
- The username and password are correct.
- The correct producer or agent code was entered.
- Hyphens or dashes were removed where required.
- The appropriate carrier program was configured.
- You selected Save and the checkmark appeared.
A small credential detail is often the cause when a newly configured carrier does not return a quote.
Tip: When setting up PL RATE for the first time, configure the carriers your agency writes most frequently first. If one of your carriers does not return quotes as expected, review the credentials and formatting before moving on to more advanced troubleshooting.
Carrier and State Availability
Successfully entering credentials does not necessarily mean that a carrier is available for every quote.
Carrier availability can depend on:
- State
- Line of business
- Your agency's appointment
- Carrier appetite
Carrier and state availability can change, so use the current carrier availability information within Momentum RATE rather than relying on an older carrier list.
Updating Carrier Credentials
If your carrier credentials change, update the information in Carrier Settings.
Keeping carrier credentials current helps prevent interruptions when submitting quotes.
Best Practices
- Start with your most frequently used carriers. This allows your team to begin quoting with its primary markets first.
- Enter codes carefully. Small formatting differences can prevent credentials from working.
- Remove hyphens and dashes where required. This is particularly important for producer and agent codes.
- Save every carrier individually. Confirm the checkmark appears before moving to the next carrier.
- Verify state availability. A configured carrier may not be available in every state.
- Recheck credentials first when troubleshooting. Credential errors are a common cause of carriers not returning quotes.
Summary
Carrier credentials allow Momentum PL RATE to connect with your agency's direct personal lines appointments.
Add your carriers through Carrier Settings, enter the requested login and producer information, select Save, and confirm that the checkmark appears. Pay close attention to producer-code formatting and carrier-specific requirements, especially for Progressive, GEICO, Liberty Mutual, and Safeco.
Once your priority carriers are configured, you're ready to begin quoting.
