PL RATE | Frequently Asked Questions

Overview

This article provides quick answers to frequently asked questions about Momentum PL RATE, including system requirements, carrier appointments, quoting Home and Auto, third-party data prefill, carrier availability, and how PL RATE works with Momentum AMS.

Do I need Momentum AMS to use PL RATE?

Yes. Momentum PL RATE is accessed through Momentum AMS. Your agency must use Momentum AMS to access and use the Personal Lines Rater.

Can I quote carriers that my agency is not appointed with?

No. Personal Lines is direct-appointment only. Your agency quotes using its own carrier appointments.

Wholesale market access through MomentumWIN applies to Commercial Lines and is not available for Personal Lines quotes.

Can I quote both Home and Auto?

Yes. PL RATE supports:

  • Home
  • Personal Auto
  • Home + Auto Bundle

Does it matter whether I select Home, Auto, or Bundle when I start?

Yes. Select the appropriate quote type at the beginning of the quoting process.

You cannot begin a Home-only quote and add Auto to that quote later in the workflow. If you want to quote both Home and Auto, select Home + Auto Bundle at the beginning and complete the full bundle workflow.

Important

Choose the correct line of business before beginning the application. If you need both Home and Auto estimates, start with the Bundle option rather than beginning with a Home-only quote.

Why don't I see all of my carriers when I run a quote?

PL RATE displays carriers based on the credentials your agency has configured and the carriers that are available for the state being quoted.

If an expected carrier does not appear, check:

  • Whether your agency's credentials have been configured for the carrier.
  • Whether the carrier is available for the state being quoted.
  • Whether your agency has the appropriate direct appointment.

How long does it take to receive quote results?

Quote results typically return in approximately 10–15 seconds.

The lowest estimated premium is displayed first.

How are Personal Auto premiums compared?

Six-month Auto premiums are normalized within PL RATE to provide an apples-to-apples comparison between returned estimates.

Are the premiums returned by PL RATE final?

No. PL RATE returns estimated premiums.

When you are ready to continue with a carrier, use Bridge to Carrier. This carries the information entered in PL RATE into the carrier's portal, where you can refine the quote and continue toward binding.

Remember

A premium displayed in PL RATE is an estimate. Use Bridge to Carrier to continue into the carrier portal and obtain the information needed to proceed toward a bindable quote.

Will quoting change an existing client's Momentum AMS record?

No. When quoting an existing Momentum AMS client, information can flow from the AMS into the quote, but changes made while working on the quote do not overwrite the existing client record.

The data flow for an existing client is intentionally one-directional from the AMS into the quote.

What happens when I create a new prospect in PL RATE?

If you create a brand-new prospect while quoting, completing the full application saves the prospect's information into Momentum AMS.

If you stop before completing the application, the new prospect is not saved to the AMS.

What does third-party data prefill cost?

Third-party data prefill costs approximately $0.45 per address for either Home or Auto.

The charge is applied once per address within a 30-day period. Re-rating the same address during that period does not create another prefill charge.

Prefill is optional, and the charge is a pass-through cost.

What information can third-party prefill provide?

Depending on the available data, prefill can help populate information such as:

  • Property details for Home quotes
  • Household drivers for Auto quotes
  • Registered vehicles for Auto quotes

Always review prefilled information for accuracy before submitting the quote.

How do I find out whether a carrier or state is available?

Carrier and state availability changes over time, so use the current Momentum RATE Carrier Guide rather than relying on a previously saved carrier list.

Can I request a carrier that isn't currently available?

Yes. If a carrier is not currently available in Momentum RATE, use the Missing a Carrier feature in the Carriers tab to submit a request.

Carrier requests are reviewed by the RATE team, but submitting a request does not guarantee that the carrier will be added.

Can I request an additional state for an existing carrier?

Yes. A request can be submitted to add another state for a carrier that is already available.

State activation is reviewed and is not guaranteed.

Why did an available carrier decline my quote?

Carrier availability and carrier appetite are different.

A carrier may be available within PL RATE and still decline a particular risk because it does not meet the carrier's underwriting appetite.

An appetite-related declination is not necessarily a PL RATE system error.

What should I do if I receive an error?

Most PL RATE issues fall into three categories:

  1. Credential Issue – Review the carrier login and producer or agent code.
  2. Appetite / Declination – The submitted risk may not meet the carrier's underwriting appetite.
  3. Integration Issue – There may be a problem with the connection between RATE and the carrier.

If you need to report an issue, open Quote Details and copy the Session ID.

Reporting a Quote Issue

When reporting a quote-related issue, include the Session ID from Quote Details along with the line of business, state, carrier, and a description of what occurred. Submit the issue through the help option inside Momentum RATE.

Can I save quote information to Momentum AMS?

Yes. The Send to AMS option records quote information on the client's Momentum AMS record under Quote Applications.

This can include the carrier, effective date, date created, estimated premium, and a link back to the RATE quote.

Send to AMS is different from Bridge to Carrier. Send to AMS records the quote information in the AMS, while Bridge to Carrier takes you into the carrier portal to refine the estimate and continue toward binding.

Can I provide a quote summary to the prospect?

Yes. PL RATE can generate a prospect-facing PDF quote summary containing returned premiums and proposed coverages.

You also have the option to hide carrier names on the quote summary.

Can I find previous quotes?

Yes. Submission History allows you to access previous Personal and Commercial quotes.

The Pipeline view also tracks submission statuses such as Draft, Started, and Quoted, along with key dates.

Summary

Momentum PL RATE connects personal lines quoting with Momentum AMS and your agency's direct carrier appointments. You can quote Home, Personal Auto, or a Home + Auto Bundle, use optional third-party data prefill, compare estimated premiums, bridge into a carrier portal, and retain quote information in Momentum AMS.

If a question involves current carrier or state availability, always check the live Carrier Guide. If you encounter a quote-related issue that cannot be resolved through credential or appetite review, capture the Session ID and submit the issue through the help option inside Momentum RATE.
