PL RATE | Getting Started & First-Time Setup

Overview

Before your agency begins quoting with Momentum PL RATE, there are a few initial setup steps to complete. These include accessing RATE from Momentum AMS, activating the appropriate users, entering your carrier credentials, creating optional templates, and selecting your third-party data prefill preference. Completing these steps helps prepare your agency to begin running personal lines quotes.

Before You Begin

Momentum PL RATE is accessed through Momentum AMS, so your agency must have access to Momentum AMS before using the Personal Lines Rater.

Personal Lines RATE uses your agency's direct carrier appointments. There is no wholesale market option for Personal Lines, so the appropriate carrier appointments and credentials are required for the carriers your agency intends to quote.

Step 1: Access Momentum RATE

To begin:

  1. Log in to Momentum AMS.
  2. Open Momentum RATE.
  3. Sign in to access the RATE dashboard.

Each new user who will need access to RATE should open Momentum RATE from the AMS at least once. This registers the user so that an administrator can manage their access.

Step 2: Activate Your Users

Once a user has accessed RATE for the first time, an administrator can activate the user.

Navigate to:

Admin → User Management

Locate the appropriate user and:

  1. Set the user's Action to Active.
  2. Assign the appropriate role.
  3. Confirm that the correct users have been activated.

Important: Do not reactivate old or unfamiliar inactive users without first confirming that they should have access to Momentum RATE.

If an expected user or seat is not available, use the help option within Momentum RATE to contact Support for assistance.

Step 3: Configure Your Carrier Credentials

Carrier credentials are one of the most important parts of the initial PL RATE setup.

Navigate to Carrier Settings and configure the credentials for each carrier your agency is appointed with and intends to quote.

Because Personal Lines uses your agency's direct appointments, the credentials entered should correspond with your agency's existing carrier relationship.

After entering the required credentials:

  1. Review the information for accuracy.
  2. Select Save.
  3. Confirm that the carrier shows as connected.

Important: Carrier credentials must be entered exactly as required by the carrier. Incorrect credentials or formatting can prevent a carrier from returning quote results.

We will cover carrier-specific credential setup in more detail in PL RATE | Adding Carrier Credentials.

Step 4: Create Templates — Optional

Templates can be created to prefill commonly used answers when starting personal lines quotes.

Navigate to:

Admin → Templates

Templates can be configured by state and line of business and can help reduce repetitive data entry by pre-populating common application responses.

Templates are optional, but they can be particularly useful when your agency frequently writes similar personal lines business.

Step 5: Set Your Third-Party Data Prefill Preference

PL RATE can use third-party data to help populate information during the quoting process.

Your agency can choose whether third-party prefill should be:

  • Pre-selected by default, or
  • Requested only when needed

Third-party prefill can help populate applicable property, driver, and vehicle information.

Important: Third-party data prefill has a separate pass-through cost. Your agency should determine its preferred setting based on how it wants the feature used during the quoting process.

Additional information about how prefill works and when charges apply is covered in PL RATE | Third-Party Data Prefill Explained.

First-Time Setup Checklist

Before running your first personal lines quote, confirm that:

  • Momentum RATE can be accessed from Momentum AMS.
  • Each RATE user has opened RATE at least once.
  • The appropriate users have been activated.
  • User roles have been assigned.
  • Priority carrier credentials have been entered and saved.
  • Carrier connections have been confirmed.
  • Optional templates have been created, if desired.
  • Your agency's third-party data prefill preference has been selected.

What Happens Next?

Once the initial setup is complete, your agency can begin creating personal lines quotes.

Before running the first quote, it is a good idea to confirm that the carriers you plan to use are properly connected and available for the applicable state and line of business.

The quoting workflow then allows you to select Home, Auto, or a Home + Auto bundle, complete the application, submit to your available carriers, and review the returned estimated premiums.

Best Practices

  • Have every RATE user access the system once. A new user must first open RATE before an administrator can manage their access.
  • Activate only current users. Confirm inactive or unfamiliar users before changing their access.
  • Set up your priority carriers first. Start with the carriers your agency uses most frequently.
  • Save and verify carrier credentials. Credential errors are a common reason a carrier may not return results.
  • Consider using templates. Templates can reduce repetitive application entry for common states and lines of business.
  • Choose your prefill preference intentionally. Third-party prefill carries a separate pass-through charge.

Summary

Setting up Momentum PL RATE involves five primary steps: accessing RATE, activating users, configuring carrier credentials, creating optional templates, and selecting your third-party data prefill preference.

Once these items are configured, your agency is ready to begin running personal lines quotes using its direct carrier appointments.
