Momentum Rate! is a core component of the Momentum AMP ecosystem, functioning as its commercial rater. It streamlines the quoting process across multiple carriers and markets, giving your agency faster, more accurate, and more efficient commercial quotes.
What Is Momentum Rate?
Momentum Rate is the commercial rating platform within the Momentum AMP ecosystem.
Rather than entering the same risk information separately into multiple carrier portals, Momentum Rate allows your agency to collect the information once and use it to access multiple available markets.
Momentum Rate can help your agency:
- Quote multiple commercial markets from one platform
- Pull existing client and policy information from Momentum AMS
- Reduce duplicate data entry
- Check carrier appetite
- Configure and use direct carrier appointments
- Access additional wholesale markets
- Use AI-assisted NAICS and classification lookup
- Send insured-facing QuoteLinqs
- Review returned quotes
- Download available quote documents
- Send selected quote information back to Momentum AMS
- Begin the binding process
Supported Commercial Lines
Momentum Rate supports a growing range of commercial insurance products and markets.
Available quoting options may include:
- Workers' Compensation
- General Liability
- Business Owners Policy (BOP)
- Cyber
- Commercial Auto
- Additional specialty and commercial lines
Available carriers and products may vary based on the risk, state, carrier appetite, appointments, and available market access.
Accessing Momentum Rate
Momentum Rate is integrated with Momentum AMS.
You can access Rate from the AMS navigation or bridge into the quoting workflow from existing AMS records, including:
- Policies
- Clients
- Insureds
- Prospects
When starting from an existing AMS record, available information can be pulled into the application so you do not have to recreate information already maintained in Momentum AMS.
This is especially useful for existing clients and renewals.
Carrier Settings and Market Access
Before submitting your first application, review Carrier Settings in Momentum Rate.
Your available markets generally fall into two categories: Direct Appointments and MomentumWIN.
Direct Appointments
If your agency has a direct appointment with a supported carrier, you can configure your carrier credentials within Momentum Rate.
To configure an appointment:
- Open Carrier Settings.
- Select Direct Appointments.
- Locate the applicable carrier.
- Enter the requested carrier credentials.
- Save the connection.
A green checkmark indicates that the carrier credentials have been successfully connected.
Business written through your agency's own direct appointments allows your agency to retain 100% of the commission.
MomentumWIN
MomentumWIN provides additional market access when your agency does not have a direct appointment or needs additional options for a particular risk.
MomentumWIN may be useful when:
- You do not have a direct appointment with a carrier
- You need additional markets
- A risk falls outside your direct carriers' appetite
- You are working with a specialty or harder-to-place risk
- You want additional options to present to your client
Business bound through MomentumWIN is subject to an 80/20 commission split, with your agency receiving 80% of the commission and MomentumWIN receiving 20%.
Starting a Quote
Select Start Quote within Momentum Rate and choose the appropriate Line of Business.
From there, you can search for an existing record from Momentum AMS or create a new record.
Using Existing AMS Information
Search for the applicable client, insured, prospect, or policy to pull available information into the application.
Fields highlighted in yellow indicate information that was pulled directly from Momentum AMS.
Review the information for accuracy before submitting the application.
Creating a New Record
If the prospect or insured does not already exist, select Create New.
The new record can also be created within Momentum AMS, helping keep the rating and AMS workflows connected.
Collecting Application Information
Momentum Rate provides a centralized application for collecting the information needed by the selected markets.
Depending on the Line of Business, this may include:
- Business information
- Contact information
- Locations
- Operations
- Prior coverage
- Payroll and class codes
- Property information
- Vehicles
- Exposure information
- Coverage requirements
- Risk-specific underwriting questions
Required fields are identified throughout the application and must be completed before submission.
AI-Assisted Classification
Momentum Rate includes an AI-assisted NAICS and class code lookup.
If you know the applicable NAICS code, you can enter it directly. You can also describe the insured's operations using plain language to help identify the appropriate classification.
For example, entering "Mows lawns" can help identify an applicable landscaping classification.
QuoteLinqs
You do not have to collect every piece of application information yourself.
QuoteLinqs provide an insured-facing application that allows the client or prospect to enter information online.
QuoteLinqs can be branded with your agency information and used with either an existing application or as a new intake form.
Existing Application QuoteLinq
If you have already started an application, create a QuoteLinq and send it to the insured.
Information completed by the insured is reflected back into the application in Momentum Rate.
Blank QuoteLinq
A blank QuoteLinq allows the insured or prospect to begin the application process.
Blank QuoteLinqs can be used as:
- A Get a Quote button on your website
- A link in an email
- A client portal link
- A general new-business intake form
This allows your agency to begin gathering information before a producer or CSR manually creates the application.
Carrier Appetite
As application information is entered, Momentum Rate helps identify available markets based on carrier appetite.
If a carrier appears greyed out, the carrier appears to be outside appetite based on the quick appetite check.
Carrier availability may depend on:
- Line of Business
- State
- Risk characteristics
- Carrier appetite
- Direct appointment configuration
- Available wholesale markets
Use the appetite information as part of your market selection before submitting the application.
Submit to Markets
Once the application is complete:
- Review the information for accuracy.
- Confirm all required fields are complete.
- Review available carrier and wholesale markets.
- Select the markets you want to approach.
- Submit the application.
Momentum Rate uses the completed application to submit to the applicable selected markets without requiring you to re-enter the same core information for each carrier.
Review Quote Results
Returned quotes can be reviewed within Momentum Rate.
Depending on the carrier, results may include:
- Carrier
- Premium
- Coverage information
- Quote documents
- Quote status
- Binding options
This allows your agency to review available options and determine which quotes should be presented to the client.
Quote, Rate & Bind Workflow
Momentum Rate can support the quoting process from initial information gathering through binding.
A complete workflow may include:
Information Gathering → Eligibility & Appetite → Market Selection → Submission → Quote Review → Client Presentation → Binding → AMS Management
Information Gathering
Collect the insured's information through the application, existing Momentum AMS data, or QuoteLinqs.
Eligibility & Appetite
Review available markets and carrier appetite to determine where the risk may fit.
Submission
Submit the completed application to the selected available markets.
Quote Review
Compare returned premiums, coverages, carrier options, and available quote documents.
Client Presentation
Review the available options with the insured and explain differences in coverage, pricing, and other important terms.
Binding
Binding options vary by carrier and market.
Some direct carriers may support binding within Momentum Rate, while others may require you to continue to the carrier's portal.
For applicable MomentumWIN quotes, select Request to Bind and a MomentumWIN representative can assist with completing the binding process.
Send Quote Information to Momentum AMS
Once you have selected the appropriate quote, use Send to AMS to send available application and quote information back to Momentum AMS.
This keeps the quoting workflow connected to your agency management system and reduces the need to manually recreate information.
Your team can then continue the normal policy-management workflow within Momentum AMS.
Download Quote Documents
When documents are returned by the carrier, use Download to retrieve the available quote documents.
These documents can be used for:
- Client presentations
- Coverage comparisons
- Internal review
- Documentation
- Binding
- Maintaining the agency's audit trail
Additional Momentum Tools
Momentum Rate works alongside other Momentum tools to support the commercial insurance workflow.
Depending on the workflow, agencies can use Momentum's available tools for classification assistance, risk appetite, data collection, document management, automation, and ongoing account servicing.
Together with Momentum AMS, these tools help maintain a connected workflow from prospect through policy management.
