PL RATE | Third-Party Data Prefill Explained

Overview

Third-party data prefill helps reduce manual data entry when creating Home and Personal Auto quotes in Momentum PL RATE. When used, PL RATE retrieves available property, driver, and vehicle information from external data sources and uses it to prefill portions of the application. Prefill is optional and is billed as a small pass-through cost.

What Does Third-Party Data Prefill Do?

Third-party data prefill retrieves available information from external data sources and automatically populates applicable fields within the quote application.

Instead of manually entering every property, driver, or vehicle detail, your team can review the information returned by the prefill and make corrections where necessary.

Prefilled fields are highlighted within the application so you can quickly identify and review the information that was populated.

Important: Always review prefilled information for accuracy before submitting a quote. Prefill is designed to reduce data entry, but the information should still be confirmed as part of the quoting process.

Home Prefill

For a Home quote, third-party prefill can populate available property information such as:

  • Year built
  • Square footage
  • Roof details
  • Foundation details
  • Additional available property information

For Home applications, PL RATE uses a hierarchy when determining which information should populate a field:

Default Values → AMS Records → Third-Party Enrichment

The highest available source in that hierarchy is used for the field.

Personal Auto Prefill

For a Personal Auto quote, prefill can retrieve available household information associated with the address.

This may include:

Drivers

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • License status

Vehicles

  • VIN
  • Year
  • Make
  • Model

Review the returned drivers and vehicles and add or remove information as needed before continuing with the quote.

How Much Does Prefill Cost?

Third-party data prefill is billed as a pass-through cost.

The current cost is approximately:

  • $0.45 per Home address
  • $0.45 per Auto address

Momentum does not add a markup to the prefill charge.

How Often Is the Prefill Charge Applied?

The prefill charge is applied once per address within a 30-day period.

If you re-rate the same address multiple times during that 30-day period, additional prefill charges are not applied for each re-rate.

In most situations, the data only needs to be pulled once for a prospect during the quoting process.

Example

If third-party data is pulled for an Auto quote today and you re-rate the same address several times during the next 30 days, the prefill is not charged again for each re-rate.

How Often Does Prefill Return Information?

The amount of information available can vary by address, line of business, and region.

Typical data-return rates are approximately:

  • Home: 70–90%
  • Auto: 95% or higher

A prefill request does not guarantee that every field will be populated.

Is Third-Party Prefill Required?

No. Third-party prefill is optional.

Your agency can choose whether prefill should be:

  • Pre-selected by default, or
  • Requested only when needed

Prefill can also be toggled for an individual quote.

This allows your agency to decide when the convenience of retrieving third-party information makes sense for its quoting workflow.

How Does Prefill Interact with Momentum AMS?

It is important to understand how information moves between PL RATE and Momentum AMS.

New Prospects

When you create a brand-new prospect in PL RATE, completing the quote application all the way to the end pushes the prospect's information into Momentum AMS.

If you stop before completing the application, the new prospect is not saved to the AMS.

Existing AMS Clients

For an existing Momentum AMS client, information flows from the AMS into the quote.

Changes made to an existing client's information while working on the quote do not overwrite the existing client record in Momentum AMS.

Important: For existing clients, the connection is intentionally one-directional during the quoting process. Changes made within the quote do not automatically update the existing AMS client file.

Best Practices

  • Review all prefilled information. Do not assume information returned by an external data source is automatically correct.
  • Verify drivers and vehicles. Remove or add household drivers and vehicles when necessary.
  • Pay particular attention to property information. Confirm important Home underwriting details such as roof information.
  • Use prefill when it saves meaningful data entry. The feature is optional and can be controlled based on your agency's workflow.
  • Remember the 30-day window. Re-rating the same address within 30 days does not create another prefill charge.
  • Complete new-prospect applications. The new prospect is saved to Momentum AMS only after the application is completed.
  • Update existing AMS records separately when necessary. Edits made during an existing client's quote do not overwrite the AMS client record.

Summary

Third-party data prefill can significantly reduce the amount of information your team needs to manually enter when creating Home and Personal Auto quotes in Momentum PL RATE.

Home prefill can provide property information, while Auto prefill can provide household driver and vehicle information. The feature is optional and currently costs approximately $0.45 per address, charged once per address within a 30-day period.

Always review prefilled information before submitting the quote, and remember that changes made during a quote for an existing client do not automatically update the client's Momentum AMS record.
