Analyzing Your Book of Business – Policies Reports

Analyzing Your Book of Business – Policies Reports
The Policies Reports in Momentum AMS allow you to break down your active, expired, or canceled policies from multiple angles. These reports help you identify production trends, carrier performance, and book distribution so you can make informed business decisions.

Policies reports can be filtered by agent, carrier, MGA, line of business, state, tags, and more — making them a powerful tool for both sales tracking and operational analysis.

Accessing Policies Reports

  1. From the Interactive Reports menu, select the Policies category.

  2. Choose the specific report you want to run.
    Common options include:

    • Policies by Carrier – View your book segmented by carrier.

    • Policies by MGA – Review policies placed through managing general agencies.

    • Policies by Line of Business – Analyze distribution across different LOBs.

    • Policies by Agent – Evaluate each producer’s active book.

    • Policies by State – Identify geographic concentration.

    • Policies by Parent Carrier – Group writing companies under a parent carrier.

    • Policies by Premium Sent – Track premium amounts sent to carriers.

Filtering for Insights

Once a report is open, use the filters at the top to focus your results. Examples:

  • Date Range – Compare current year to previous years.

  • Agent – Drill into an individual producer’s policies.

  • Line of Business – Review only Commercial Auto, GL, or Workers’ Comp.

  • Tags – Pull a specialized segment, such as “VIP Clients” or “High Risk.”

? Example: Run Policies by Line of Business for the past 12 months to see which coverage types are growing or shrinking.

Sorting and Grouping

  • Click a column header (like Premium or Count) to sort results.

  • Use Group By to see data by multiple layers—such as Carrier > Agent or State > Line of Business.

  • This makes it easy to see how business is distributed across your agency.

Exporting Results

  • Click the Export icon to download to Excel or PDF for further analysis or sharing with management.

  • Save commonly used filter settings as your default view to avoid re-entry.

Best Practices

  • Review Policies by Carrier quarterly to identify shifts in market share.

  • Use Policies by Agent in producer review meetings to set targets and incentives.

  • Combine Policies by LOB and Policies by State to uncover growth opportunities in underserved markets.

  • Track Policies by Premium Sent to monitor carrier payment flow and spot premium concentration risks.
