This article provides answers to common questions when working in Momentum CL RATE. Use these troubleshooting steps to understand carrier availability, appetite results, carrier connections, QuoteLinqs, commissions, and binding options.
Why Is a Carrier Greyed Out?
A greyed-out carrier means the carrier appears to be outside appetite based on the quick appetite check.
Depending on the risk, you may need to:
- Review the application information for accuracy.
- Adjust applicable application details.
- Select another available market.
A carrier being available through Momentum RATE does not necessarily mean that every risk will meet that carrier's appetite.
Why Is My Carrier Not Showing?
There are several reasons a carrier may not appear as an available option.
The carrier may:
- Not be configured for your agency.
- Be missing required carrier credentials.
- Not be available for the selected line of business.
- Not be available in the selected state.
- Be outside appetite for the risk.
Start by reviewing your Carrier Settings and confirming that applicable direct appointments are properly configured.
Carrier and state availability can change, so use the current Carrier Guide when checking availability.
What Does the Green Checkmark Mean?
A green checkmark in Carrier Settings means your direct appointment credentials have been successfully connected.
After entering and saving your carrier credentials, look for the green checkmark next to the carrier to confirm the connection.
Why Am I Not Receiving a Quote from a Carrier?
A carrier appearing as an available market does not guarantee that a quote will be returned.
Review:
- Carrier appetite
- State availability
- Line of business
- Application information
- Required fields
- Carrier configuration and credentials
Make sure the application is complete and review any information or status returned by the carrier.
Can My Agency Keep 100% of the Commission?
Yes, when business is quoted and bound through your agency's own direct appointment, your agency keeps 100% of the commission.
Business written through MomentumWIN is subject to an 80/20 commission split, with 80% going to the agency and 20% to MomentumWIN.
Can I Use a Carrier If I Don't Have a Direct Appointment?
MomentumWIN provides access to additional wholesale commercial markets and can be used when your agency does not have a direct appointment or needs additional market options.
Available markets depend on the risk, state, line of business, and current carrier availability.
Can an Insured Complete the Application?
Yes. QuoteLinqs allow insureds and prospects to complete application information through an insured-facing digital experience.
You can:
- Create a QuoteLinq from an application you have already started, or
- Use a blank QuoteLinq to allow an insured or prospect to begin a new application.
For an existing application, information entered through the QuoteLinq is reflected back into the application in Momentum RATE.
Can I Put a QuoteLinq on My Agency Website?
Yes. A blank QuoteLinq can be used behind a Get a Quote button on your agency website.
Blank QuoteLinqs can also be used in:
- Email campaigns
- Client portals
- General new-business intake workflows
Submissions can then flow into Momentum RATE for your agency to review and continue through the quoting process.
Can I Bind Coverage Inside Momentum RATE?
Sometimes. Binding options vary by carrier.
For direct appointments:
- Some carriers support binding within Momentum RATE.
- Other carriers require you to bridge to the carrier portal to complete binding.
For MomentumWIN quotes, select Request to Bind. A MomentumWIN representative will assist with completing the binding process.
How Do I Send Quote Information Back to Momentum AMS?
From the returned quote results, use Send to AMS to push applicable application and quote information back into Momentum AMS.
This allows your agency to keep selected quote information associated with the AMS record and continue managing the policy workflow from Momentum AMS.
Where Can I Find the Current Carrier List?
Use the live Carrier Guide when checking current carrier availability:
https://nc.clrater.com/NCR/carrierGuide/external
Important: Carrier and state availability changes. Do not rely on an older or previously saved carrier list to determine current availability.
What If a Carrier I Need Isn't Available?
Use the Missing a Carrier feature in the Carriers tab to submit a request.
A request does not guarantee that the carrier or state will be added, so availability should be confirmed before promising a market to an insured.
Best Practices
- Confirm carrier connections before submitting. Look for the green checkmark for direct appointments.
- Review appetite results. A carrier may be available in RATE but not fit a particular risk.
- Use the live Carrier Guide. Do not rely on static carrier lists.
- Review application information before submitting. Make sure required fields and AMS-pulled information are accurate.
- Follow the displayed binding workflow. Binding options vary by carrier and market.
- Use QuoteLinqs when appropriate. They can help collect application information directly from the insured.
Summary
Most CL RATE questions can be resolved by reviewing the application information, carrier appetite, Carrier Settings, credentials, and current market availability.
Direct appointments use your agency's own carrier relationship and credentials, while MomentumWIN provides additional wholesale market access. QuoteLinqs can be used to collect application information from insureds, and binding options vary depending on the carrier.
