Generating the XML for a New York Auto ID Card in Momentum AMS

Overview
Momentum AMS allows licensed New York agencies to generate the official FS-20 XML file used for producing state-compliant Auto ID cards. This XML file can be submitted to approved NY DMV-compatible software to print or digitally produce New York Auto ID cards.

When to Use This

Use this process when your agency:

  • Needs to generate a New York Auto ID card for a personal or commercial auto policy.

  • Must submit an FS-20 XML file to a third-party vendor or DMV portal to print or distribute official ID cards.

Step-by-Step: Generating the NY Auto ID XML

Step 1: Open the Insured Record

  1. From the left navigation panel, select Insureds.

  2. Search for and open the insured profile associated with the New York auto policy.

  3. Confirm the insured has an active auto policy linked with at least one listed vehicle.

Step 2: Go to the Insured Items Tab

  1. Click the Insured Items tab in the insured’s profile.

  2. Locate the Vehicles section.

  3. Verify that each vehicle record includes:

    • VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)

    • Make and Model

    • Year

    • Assigned Policy Number

    • Unit Number or Use Type (if applicable)

Step 3: Open the Actions Menu for the Vehicle

  1. Locate the specific vehicle for which you need to generate the Auto ID XML.

  2. Click the Actions dropdown on the left side of the vehicle row.

  3. From the menu, select Download NY ID Card.

Tip: If the option is not visible, verify that your agency’s account has the New York State Auto ID Card feature enabled.

Step 4: Review and Save the XML File

Once selected, Momentum AMS will automatically generate an FS-20 XML file containing all required vehicle, insured, and policy data.

  • The file will download automatically to your computer.

  • The filename will typically include the policy number and vehicle unit ID for easy reference (e.g., MomentumAutoID_1101-10-10-00_Unit1.xml).

Step 5: Submitting or Converting the XML File

The XML file is now ready for submission to your approved New York DMV-compatible vendor or form generator.

You can use the XML to:

  • Import into a DMV-approved ID card printing program (e.g., GEICO FS-20 format tools).

  • Validate or view in a compliant XML reader to confirm vehicle and policy details.

  • Convert into a printable format using licensed software approved for New York FS-20 production.

Key Notes & Best Practices

  • Ensure all insured, policy, and vehicle data is accurate before generating the XML.

  • Each XML file corresponds to one vehicle record. Generate a separate file for each listed unit.

  • The XML format is strictly regulated by the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV); do not modify the contents manually.

  • Retain a copy of the generated XML for agency compliance records.

  • If your XML fails to load in the external software, confirm all fields (VIN, year, and policy number) are properly filled in Momentum AMS.

Example Use Case

An agency needs to issue a New York Auto ID card for a commercial policy:

  1. Navigate to the insured’s Insured Items → Vehicles tab.

  2. Click Actions → Download NY ID Card.

  3. Momentum generates the FS-20 XML file automatically.

  4. The XML file is uploaded into the approved DMV-compatible ID card generator.

  5. A compliant NY Auto ID card is produced for issuance to the insured.

Troubleshooting

  • Missing Option: If “Download NY ID Card” does not appear, verify the insured’s address is in New York and that the vehicle is linked to an active auto policy.

  • Corrupt File: Re-download the XML and ensure the file type remains .xml (not .txt).

  • Vendor Rejection: Contact your form vendor to confirm they accept FS-20 compliant XML files from Momentum AMS.
