Why Did My Momentum AMS Billing Change?

This is a question we get from time to time.  There could be a few reasons why this happens.  Let's begin by explaining how we charge for your Momentum AMS subscription.


Like most business expenses that you pay that are of a fixed price and not metered like electricity, you are billed in advance.  A good example would be your rent/mortgage bill.  This means you pay upfront for the next 30 days of service. After the subscription cycle ends for that month, you will receive another bill.


The Top Reason for an Unexpected Change in Your Momentum AMS Bill

Consider this scenario: You have a subscription costing $89.00, plus two users at $39.00 each. Your monthly total would be $167.00.


You decide to add a third user (+$39.00) to your account 11 days after your subscription renews. When you add this user, you won't be charged immediately. Instead, the charge will be prorated and reflected in your next bill. 


So let's see what this looks like on "paper."

  1. On September 1, you are billed $167.00 for your monthly subscription.
  2. On September 12, you add the third user.

You’ll see the charge for this additional user on your next billing date of September 30th. However, you might be surprised to see a bill of $220.00 instead of the expected $206.00 (which includes the subscription and three users).

So why is the bill higher? The additional user was not charged at the time of adding, so the prorated amount for the 11 days of service is included in the upcoming bill. Here’s a breakdown of the calculation:

September 30th Bill:

  • Base Monthly Subscription: $89.00
  • 3 Users (2 existing + 1 new): $206.00
  • Additional User Prorated Charge (for 11 days): ~$14.00

Total: $220.00

Rest assured, the following bill on October 30th will return to the normal amount of $206.00 (subscription + 3 users).
